It's at Technical skate shop shoe store thingy on Newbury Street in Boston, starts at 8:00 and goes to 10:00. I'm assuming margaritas will follow. It's some crazy stuff, I recommend stopping by.

Alright, sorry for the extreme tardiness. After not having internet for a little while and being busy with this semester's classes, I got lazy with updating this thing. But I'm back with a vengeance, I dare say. I'll try and update everything I've worked on in chronological order, and keep in mind I still don't have very good pictures (if at all) of some of my pieces. But in the meantime, here are a (very) few pictures of things I've done:

Fun With Baby Names

I hate naming anything I do. I think it's useless, except to art historians. But when I do name them, it is usually something relevant to the conversation I'm having when making it. Or some random thing that's happening at the time. Needless to say, the names usually end up absolutely ridiculous. Which I don't mind. This piece that I just completed (I think) for Thorpe's nature and abstraction class, and it's full official name is "Dear Sara: Jesus's Front Yard (On My Side Of The Mountain)". I think I'll have to shorten it. Anyway, I'm not sure if I want to continue collaging on this, but I'm pretty sure it's complete.
This was done using references from the Beverly Commons and the graveyard across the street.

Classes=productivity

Classes started again last week, and I am excited for all of them. Well the painting ones at least. I'm taking non-objective painting, nature and abstraction (I LOVE NATURE!), and realist methods. I think I might be a little scared of realist methods, just because I haven't exactly focused on much realism for a long time. But I can do it, I swear.
I also want to apologize in advance for all of the pictures of my cat, but he really likes investigating what I'm taking pictures of, then sitting on it. Plus he's just so damn cute.

Anyway, here are a few drawings I've done just on the first studio day of classes. None of them took very long, but they were fun little exercises and signs of more substantial things to come.

Unfinished, ~11"x16", acrylic paint, watercolor, pastel, pen and ink, and collaged paper towels, (This was during non-objective painting). I will only be adding probably one more element, most likely some light graphite line drawing towards the top half.
Investigation time.

It's very simple, but I'm loving this.

"From the Gazebo on Sara's Birthday", ~11"x9", watercolor, pastel, graphite, pen and ink, (for nature and abstraction). I feel like this is really childish and colorful, and just a fun quick exercise. I of course mean childish in a good way.
Posing time. Sorry for the flip flops, but the paper was curling up and I needed to hold it down. Oops.

"Outdoor Jellyfish", ~11"x9", watercolor, pastel, and pen and ink, (also for nature and abstraction). This is unfinished, I only had about 20 to 25 minutes to work on this outside. Now that it's home though, I'll probably be collaging, maybe painting some more, and definitely drawing more with either graphite or pen.

Why does he like attention so much?

I also feel like my other baby, Maxy, isn't getting as much publicity (probably because she naps a lot), so here's a picture.

Okay, I'm back. And here (finally) is the little drawing that I worked on. It may seem like it took me a lot longer than it actually has, but that's probably just because my fancy interwebnet broke.

~7"x11"???, graphite and watercolor.

For me this was just a little play with nature images and all these influences from the summer that I've come across. Plus color! For some reason I love color more in the summer than in the winter... you can blame that on living in New England.

And this is my friend Ethan stepping on it. What a mean guy.

And here's a little update on that oil portrait of Johnny (my boyfriend) I've been working on.

Nothing spectacular yet, but it's just a practice to get back into figure painting more often. I've been told I should do more of it, so I just might.

Also, sorry for the not so great quality of the pictures. I think there's something wrong with the zoom on our camera.

I Can Feel Fall Coming And It's Making Me Sad

Procrastination

I have been slacking. I blame it on the summer, and the fact that my sister's getting married next week and I can't concentrate because I'm excited.

But I'm working on a little drawing, and decided I want to start working on more little baby drawings. It seems like it will be fun, and quick enough so I can do them in my spare time, and I won't be so stressed about using a large amount of materials and wasting money. So until I actually FINISH something that I've started recently, I'll leave you with some pictures of my cat helping me draw.

Oh and also, my sneaky boyfriend decided to creep up on me during my personal painting time. Nobody was supposed to know I paint with no pants on...

And here's my painting buddy. He helps me do art. By sniffing around my palette. And knocking over some stuff. And trying to climb on my easel. Etc, etc.

And man is he cute while doing it.

A Few New Ones

Finallyyyyyy I'm posting my in-process recent pieces. I have this one painting I've been working on and building layers for a few months now, and I still think it's not right. I feel like it's still a little too messy, and I'll probably be sketching all delicate-like with graphite (fine lines) as a top layer. I could always always use suggestions though! Word.

And here's a drawing on Rives BFK that I'm also not sure about finishing. Almost there, but not quite. I think my reservations are that I'm afraid of making it too delicate if I were to do all the intricate linework in pen and ink I was intending. Decisions, decisions.
Also the first picture is WITH the flash on my camera, and the second is WITHOUT. Maybe it makes a huge difference in the color? Or maybe I'm way too picky about photos?

Now we're getting to my most recent work that I am incredibly loving right now.

Triptych, acrylic paint, paper collage, plaster, polyurethane, graphite, plants, pastel, each panel 1'x1', May 2008 (final for myth, metaphor, and symbol class)

I am totally in love with these little babies. The theme of this triptych when I started out was that even the smallest, most insignificant things are beautiful and extremely integral to the whole world. Super corney, I know, but I think I "concentrated" that idea onto the tiny surface area.
They are currently hanging in my living room, and for some reason match the color scheme exactly. You can visit them if you want.

Plaster, acrylic paint, polyurethane, shellac, latex paint, mixed media, 1'x1', Spring 2008, (this was another "musical painting" for alternative materials class)

I don't know why I've done so many one foot squares this past semester. Probably to challenge myself and try and "concentrate" things into a small space. It's pretty hard, but a very fun and satisfying challenge. Keyword here i challenge.
It's also a great size with which to do art swaps with your friends.

Mo' Art Mo' Problems

I think this might be the last of the oldies I'll be putting up. But if I find some more in my travels rummaging around in my storage room, I'll share them.Oil on canvas, ~15x30, Spring 2007, (final for figure painting I)

This was the right panel of a diptych, but I thought the left panel didn't have the same light quality and detail in it, so I shoved it in my closet. I still have it so one day I'll get back to it and fix it.

"Group Effort", mixed media (not exactly sure!) including polyurethane, acrylic paint, plaster on masonite panel, 1'x1', Spring 2008, (alternative materials class, featured in the Main Gallery of Montserrat Open House 2008)

*This project was so much fun. It was what my mixed media teacher called a "musical painting". It was basically an exercise in stripping and fixing unexpected problems/issues that come up. Everyone in the class brought in a one foot square prepped panel, and we would pass around our panels to everyone in the class spending about 10 to 15 minutes on each. So say if I had a painting, I'd spend 10 minutes on it, and pass it to the dude to my right. And we could use any materials we wanted or had available. Needless to say, it was a ridiculous amount of fun and I was up to my shoulders in paint and plaster and what have you by the end of the class. Whee.

More Early Work

So here's the one sculpture I've ever done that I consider semi-okay/successful-ish. I am no a sculptor nor will I ever be a sculptor, I won't say I hate sculpture but I hate doing it. WITH A FIERY PASSION. I have absolutely no grasp on the laws of physics or gravity or making things stand up straight and it's horrible. Anyway, here it is, from my freshman year sculpture 1/3D class.

I can't really remember what it's made of, but I'm pretty sure it's metal bars, random wood, ripped up aluminum pail, cans, wire, hangers, I'm not sure what else. But my hands were bleeding after I finished.

Hi there. I'm starting this quote unquote "blog" so I can put all of my art in one place so people can see it. If they even want to see it, which I don't think they do, but I do and that's all that matters, right? I'll try to do it all chronologically, but I can't promise anything. I'm starting with a bunch of old pictures I have from a few years ago, and I can't always remember the date or the materials, but I'll try to keep the details straight.

In conclusion, I would like to dedicate this blog to my kitty Moishe (mo-sheh), who is about 5 weeks old-ish and sleeping next to my shoulder. What a lazy asshole. I feel like if he could have human opinions, he would like my art. Here goes:
